Most college students know that they can sell college textbooks that they’re done using to many places and get money from them. Many universities and colleges host textbook recycling projects to help students with this. In the transition time of one semester ending and the next one beginning, there’s a great demand for textbooks. So, needless to say; those who sell textbooks make the greatest profit during this time.
The first place to go to sell textbooks is where you bought them from originally; the college book stores. The college bookstore will buy books during certain times of the year, find these times beforehand. Depending on the time of year, condition of book, and the book itself, you might get 50% of the money you bought the book for or more when you sell textbooks to the college bookstore. But the buyback price can really vary; you might even be offered just a few dollars.
Here’s another way to sell textbooks; advertise them on college notice boards. This will let the multitude of college students all over the campus looking for cheap books know that you sell textbooks they want. New textbooks cost at least $100 these days, so any book available for prices under that will be welcomed gladly by students. You can also sell textbooks that you no longer use this way. Advertising about any book will get you more money from selling it than any other way would. Another place you can advertise is on the college newspaper.
You can also sell textbooks on internet websites that specialize in buying and selling textbooks. Some will let you sell textbooks by advertising them on their sites while others will directly buy books from you. You can also buy books from such sites if you want. Search on Google with the keyword “used textbooks” and you’ll find more such sites than you would ever need!
Keep these in mind when you sell textbooks:
1) Verify that the books you are going to sell are in good condition. If they are not, try to patch them up as far as you can.
2) Try to keep your book looking “brand new”; don’t write in them or mutilate them in any way. Students will pay more to a book that looks like it hadn’t been used much.
3) Check when the bookstore will start to sell textbooks.
4) See how much in demand the book is. Some bookstores provide the facility of checking how “popular” a book is and how much you can sell it for by using its ISBN number.
5) Always include your contact info such as phone number or email when you put up ads on noticeboards. You don’t want your customers thinking “oh wow! If only I could buy that book”!
6) Compare the various online sellers and the various benefits you receive before you sell textbooks. Then put up your ad.
Even if you don’t earn a lot of money when you sell textbooks, the money you receive can be used to cut off the prices of other books you have to buy.
If you are the kind of person who gets happiness out of helping others and donating, you can donate your old books to overseas programs that will accept any textbook as long as they were published recently. Other college students like you that are being kept from getting a good education because of the lack of books will benefit hugely from this.
