A Review on I Am Sam Movie

The movie was very moving. Sean Penn is a great actor and he should have won the Oscars for that. Well, I blame politics. Anyway, Sean Penn, playing as Sam Dawson was a mentally retarded man. He had a one night stand and bore an offspring who was Dakota Fanning playing as Lucy. The woman left Lucy to the care of Sam. I would say that would be the most insensitive thing for a mother to do to her child. As Lucy grew up, she surpassed the mental ability of his father. As young as she was, she hid her intellectual progress from her father sensing that her father has limited mental capacity. She was taken into custody by a social worker as they found out the condition of Sam. They reasoned that Sam does not have the capacity to raise Lucy. Incidentally, the lawyer who was dubbed as cold-hearted was helped by Sam of her family problems. He was given fathers access rights ultimately when Lucy was adopted by a foster family. The case was tried and Sam had a high-caliber lawyer that helped him pro bono.

The Benefits of a Scottsdale CPA

A Scottsdale CPA can be beneficial in helping you not only prepare your tax return, but also organizing your financial matters. Whether you are a business owner who is struggling to keep all your paperwork in order, or just an individual who is not great with numbers, a Certified Public Accountant can be a great person to talk to. Fees for CPA services vary based on how skilled the accountant is. If they have a good reputation in the community and have been in the profession for a number of years, they may charge more. Also, a CPA in one city may charge more than one in another city. This is often how professionals charge for services throughout the country, since hourly rates are often dependent on the local housing market. If it costs a lot to live somewhere, professionals will often charge a bit more per hour for their services in order to compensate for the additional cost of housing.

Sage Training in the workplace

Copyright 2006 Anthony Fallon

Sage Training – A helpful guide for anyone that has had the task of company accounting dumped on them using Sage Software without the investment in training. If you need to have Sage training because you are not sure of what you are doing then conveniently place this article on the bosses chair to bring it to their attention.

Sage Accounting software programs are great for recording business transactions and providing management data instantly when it’s required. But why do so many business owners believe that buying a piece of software will transform their business overnight without the in-house skills to use it? And this doesn’t just apply to accounting software! “Oh well, you can use a keyboard, so you can do the accounts” this is usually a major part of the decision making process when small businesses buy accounting software.

The person that can use the keyboard is struck with paralysis because they don’t know anything about accounts and are too frightened to say “well if Im going to do the accounts using Sage I’m going to need Sage training because it takes three years to become qualified as an accountant and I dont know anything about it and your expecting me to knock out management accounts for you at the end of the month.” “Oh just read the manual” comes the reply

Manuals only make sense when you’ve been shown how to do it Is it me or do manuals only make sense when you know how to do something? Manuals tell us how the programs work they are not very good at how do I process this credit note because the goods have been returned and we need our money back. There just isn’t enough room in the book to cover every possible human encounter. About 80% of the transactions require only about 20% of the effort because they are straightforward and obvious to a book-keeper, once the rules are learned. The other 20% or so of transactions require 80% of the intellectual effort. Trawling through a manual without any accounting experience or Sage training is definitely a non starter.

Sage training in the classroom This is the next step up from reading the manual. There are many Sage training organisations you can visit, including Sage Software PLC, who can provide you with excellent training facilities and guide you through the software. Sage training in the classroom usually takes the form of a fictitious company with a training manual that has preset tasks for entering various transactions. Those preset tasks don’t always match your business transactions.

The Sage classroom training is very good for learning how to put the data in but it doesn’t teach you the accounting that goes on in the background. You need to understand what goes on in the background if you are to produce accurate management reports and correct any input errors. There’s one thing that’s annoying about classroom training and it’s that person that sits at the front and asks all the questions they already know the answer to so they can impress others. Hogging the limelight and the tutor’s time. It’s in that instance when you wish you weren’t so gentlemanly or lady like so you could get up and punch them on the nose. Sage training in the classroom is recommended if all you want to do is input data.

Sage training in the workplace One to one Sage training is by far the best way to learn how to use the program but be wary, the person training you should be a qualified book-keeper or Accountant. Make sure you see their credentials One to one Sage training by a qualified person means you will learn more than how to process transactions, you will learn how to get out what you put in and apart from statutory information you will be able to handle any question your boss wants to throw at you. Funnily enough they all seem to ask the same questions, How much do we owe, how much do they owe us, how much have we spent on, etc.

Sage training at your desk means its your data you’re working on; the invoices, credits, customer receipts and purchase payments that you are familiar with on a daily basis. Sage training in the workplace is less expensive than classroom based training: In a classroom environment there is more than you being trained and you have to share the instructor with other learners who will have had to pay the same amount as you. Workplace Sage training is more efficient in that the instructor spends more time with you on specific issues relevant to your business and what you need to know Specific written training procedures for how you use the Sage software in your business can be created so that anyone can process data consistently with management needs.

Software is just a tool, and without an experienced person behind a tool usually leads to disaster – Education is often considered expensive but it lasts a lifetime (which is more than can be said for software) If your boss wants to go to bed at night comforted by the fact that the accounting function of the business is in safe hands then suggest some investment in training. But don’t waste their time, if you really don’t want to learn the accounts tell them so – You can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink! And if you really want to become fully conversant with accounting procedures then contact anyone of the worldwide accounting bodies for more information.

Bridgestone Tires – Taking A Drive

After a chance meeting between Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone in the late 1800s the two collaborated on Fords first automobile. It was the man that ultimately was the impetus for Bridgestone Tires that helped Mr. Ford resolve his problem of supporting such a large weight and also to give the ride a smoother touch.

From the hand that the Bridgestone Tire creator played in a historic moment in the history of the United States, through countless other innovations, Bridgestone has been there. With something that the average person gives very little attention to unless a problem arises, its interesting to consider what aspects must be focused on to make a good, reliable tire. Bridgestone has given considerable attention in the area of wet handling and traction, tire punctures, tire wear, ride comfort, noise reduction, among countless other areas that are indeed essential, if we drivers and riders are to continue to forget about the things that our autos rest upon.

A glance over this list offers, perhaps, two thoughts. At first glance, perhaps some sense of the mundane is considered (wet handling and tire punctures don exactly elicit the most contentious debates). But, upon some reflection the importance of these contributions to our everyday lives can easily be witnessed. It is from this that much respect can and should be given to the entrepreneurs that have offered so much to out lives, like the individuals at Bridgestone Tires.

Internet Banking – How Secure is it?

The biggest concern that people have when they start using Internet banking is security. The media is full of scare stories about foreign hackers breaking into thousands of bank accounts and draining out all the money, leaving some poor old couple missing their life savings. Many people have even been scared out of signing up for Internet banking at all by these kind of stories, thinking that it somehow puts them at risk. However, as long as you take the time to learn a little about the Internet, nothing could be further from the truth.

Before we go any further, there is one thing that is absolutely the most important thing you can know about Internet banking security. It is this: there is absolutely no guarantee that emails are from who they say theyre from. E-mail was designed back before people were concerned about Internet security (thats why you get so much spam), and if you know what youre doing, its really very easy to make an email look like it came from absolutely anyone, anywhere. With this in mind, you should simply ignore any email that says it comes from your bank, and never click any links that the emails may contain.

Thats the biggest risk out of the way, but there are still a few other things to watch out for. When you go to your banks website, make sure that youve really ended up at the right place by looking for the address in the address bar towards the top of the screen it should be the address of your banks website, not anything strange. Also, make sure to look for the padlock icon in the bottom-right of your screen, as this tells you that your connection is secure. If youre ever in doubt, close your web browser and start again, copying the banks website address carefully from a letter they sent you.

How many Macs are too many macs?

Please don’t think me greedy.

I’m just attached to my Macs.

I suspect I’m not alone: The more Mac computers I get, the harder it is to part with them. I no sooner pay for one than I buy another. And although I have sold a few over the years, lately I’m turning into a Mac miser.

You know those little old ladies that the newspapers regularly write about that have 347 cats in their house?

That’s what I’m worried I may be like with my Macs.

I have a dual processor G5 with dual monitors, a 15-in PowerBook, a 15-in MacBook Pro, a G5 20-inch iMac and – thanks to work – a new 17-inch MacBook Pro.

Theres no way I can use them all. But its almost impossible to part with any of them.

I, for sure, should sell the PowerBook and, twice now, have started to post it on eBay or Craigs List, only to chicken out at the last minute. The new Intel MacBooks dont work with my Verizon Broadband Access PC card. The PowerBook does. So, I tell myself, I may need it when I go on vacation in a few weeks in case the place where well be staying doesnt have Net access.

Then theres the new 15-in MBP. I bought it in March, only to be pleasantly surprised when, a month later, my employer suddenly provided me with a 17-in MBP. I should sell the 15-in. But, then again, thats mine. What if work suddenly took back their 17-incher. And so the 15-in MBP sits in a carrycase. Just in case.

I dont really use the big G5 and the two monitor setup anymore either. But when it comes to listing them, I get queasy. Itd be like selling a child. Or getting rid of my dog. I cant. i just cant.

The iMac is easy. I have given that to my wife. No way would she part with that. Shes now as hooked on Macs as I am.

Still, I wonder. how many Macs are too many Macs?

Baseball Pitching Tips for Kids

Every kid that loves baseball has fantasized about being a great pro pitcher and throwing a perfect game. Its one of those universal American dreams of little boys everywhere. While dreams like these should never be quashed, its important for responsible adults to teach kids how to pitch a baseball with the correct form and control. Without such guidance, overly enthusiastic children run a real risk of doing damage to their arms, elbows, and shoulder joints when throwing baseballs.

The first thing ever kid needs to learn before he takes the mound to pitch in a baseball game is the correct form. Not only will this give his pitches more power and control, it will also put less strain on the important and vulnerable parts of the body. There are two big keys for baseball pitchers. First, it must be taught to youngsters that effective and safe pitching is powered mainly by the legs, not the arm.

A good training tip is to have players watch several pro baseball games, paying close attention to the form of the pitchers as they wind up and throw. Have them note how the legs are what propel them, and that the arm is really just a means of directing the ball. Kids arent analyzers, and most of them will attempt to pitch a baseball using all arm strength. This is sure path to injury!

The other crucially important aspect of pitching a baseball that must be taught early is the role of the elbow. The natural tendency, especially in kids, is to simply try to throw the baseball as hard as they can each and every time. Again, this invites injury and can actually rob them of speed on every pitch.

The proper form is to train the elbow to lead the hand. The elbow should stay ahead of hand until just before release of the baseball. This takes some practice, but once a child learns to do it without forcing it, he s on the path to better control, more power, and (most importantly) a safe baseball throwing motion.

Caution: in conjunction with this move, baseball pitchers must learn to keep their throwing arms shoulder in close to their body. One of the biggest hazards is letting the shoulder jut forward or to the side early in the pitching motion. The elbow moving ahead will put strain on the shoulder joint if it isnt kept close in. Again, this takes repeated practice, especially for kids for whom baseball pitching is new and whose bodies are not yet under their full control.

A good idea is to impress upon the young pitcher that speed isnt the top priority in good baseball pitching, control is. This serves two purposes. First, it will help you slow him down in order to ingrain the proper and safe movements outlined above. Second, its generally easier to build up speed after control is learned when throwing a baseball than it is to learn control after speed.

Gum Disease Prevention With Raisins

For those of us with a sweet tooth, there is good news on the dental front. Despite the fact that raisins are sweet and sticky, scientists at the University of Illinois in Chicago have found them to contain compounds that prevent tooth decay and gingivitis.

There are a number of constituents in raisins that address the problem of plaque-causing bacteria in the mouth. Some, like oleanolic acid are very good at killing these bacteria. Oleanolic acid, oleanolic aldehyde, and 5-(hydroxy methyl)-2-furfural also reduce the ability of these bacteria to grow. In particular, they work against Streptococcus mutans, and Porphyromonas gingivalis.

Oleanolic acid is also effective at preventing the bacteria Streptococcus mutans from sticking to the surface of the tooth, The bacteria need to stick to the teeth to form plaque, after which they start eroding the tooth enamel. Sucrose, not the fructose and glucose that raisins have in them, are what creates the environment for tooth decay.

Cranberries have also been found to prevent bacteria (specifically Streptococcus mutans) from sticking to teeth, and causing gum disease and tooth decay. There are now dental floss products and toothpastes in the US that contain cranberry extract. And the British Dental Health Foundation is recommending cranberry extracts and juice to prevent tooth decay and associated problems. But because of cranberry juice’s acidity, they recommend only taking it at mealtimes. Acidic food and drinks temporarily soften the enamel on teeth.

Symptoms of gum disease include red and swollen gums that bleed easily, tooth sensitivity, spaces developing between teeth, pus between teeth, chronic bad breath, pain in the mouth, and changes to the bite of teeth. Plaque is the main cause of gum disease, though other factors can speed up the process of gum degradation. These include smoking, a genetic predisposition, pregnancy, puberty, stress, poor diet (and yo-yo dieting wouldn’t help), medications like anti-depressants, and oral contraceptives, grinding teeth at night, diabetes, and some other systemic diseases.
